RE: Derren Brown to predict Wednesdays Lotto result. - Frank - 09-10-2009 08:33 PM I watched the programme and also the replay on my sky plus machine, and again on youtube. There is no doubt that however he did it , its brilliant trick. I've read lots of speculation in the youtube and other threads about how he might have done it. The best suggestion I've heard is the trick they used in the film 'speed'. To fool the blackmailer they used a loop of videotape playing a 'fixed' scene to cover up what was really happening. In the lotto trick, it was suggested that the left hand side of our view wasn't in fact live. It was a recording of the balls in their holder taken earlier. Using split screen techniques we saw Brown live on the right hand side writing down the numbers as the result came in along with the frozen footage taken earlier on the left hand side. Of course there was someone actuallly putting the correct numbered balls into place as they were drawn on the left hand side but we never saw that. Once in place, the 'loop' we had been watching reverted to actual live footage as Brown went to the rack to show us his 'prediction' . If you watch the you tube footage you will see that the camera isn't steady as it would normally be if filmed on a tripod. It is slightly jumpy. I think this is deliberate to hide the cuts, and the lighting is deliberately low to hide the joins. RE: Derren Brown to predict Wednesdays Lotto result. - David - 09-11-2009 01:31 PM Latest on Derren: He was, of course, being disingenuous with his claim that National Lottery organisers banned him from revealing the numbers beforehand because they had to be announced first by the BBC. Brown would only have been revealing his predictions, therefore the rule did not apply in this case. Most viewers believe that Brown made the numbers appear on the balls after the draw was made. There was a 30-second gap between the last number being announced and Brown revealing his predictions, time which he filled by talking and scribbling the numbers on a piece of white card. Ahead of the attempt, Brown was besieged on social networking sites by people desperate to know the winning numbers and how he planned to pull off the stunt, receiving nearly 100,000 messages over the course of the day. After calling the numbers, Brown told viewers he would show them how he did the trick in another programme on Friday night - How To Win The Lottery - but insiders warned people not to get their hopes up too much. A source said: "Derren will be talking through a number of ways he might have pulled off his most ambitious stunt to date, but in true Derren style, he won't be giving too much away. "He will be giving hints how he might have done it, but you won't get the full story." In the final analysis he got the publicity he sought with more people watching his show than the actual lottery programme! RE: Derren Brown to predict Wednesdays Lotto result. - Frank - 09-12-2009 07:21 AM Well as I expected, the programme telling us how he did it was a load of flim flam. Just a smokescreen. Before the draw date he conned a group of 24 people into thinking that they could guess the lotto numbers using psychic writing, supposedly taking an average in groups of 6 to choose the numbers from. They never saw the numbers they had supposedly chosen on Wednesday, because he did the averaging calculations, and didn't show them. It didn't matter, he wasn't going to use them anyway. He didn't know the result until they were drawn on Wednesday and his hidden assistant put them on the rack behind the 'freeze frame' left hand side of the split screen. The biggest clue to how he really did it was in the trailers for that show - a snowflake (as in frozen) . RE: Derren Brown to predict Wednesdays Lotto result. - David - 09-12-2009 04:16 PM Derren's so-called "I'll show you how I did it" programme was the biggest load of rubbish I've seen for a long time. I agree, Frank with your view. Here's how a magician saw it: Britain |
