How do they check your ticket in your own home?

My guess is that they have a portable ticket checker just like a bank card machine you would use to pay for a meal in a restaurant. It will check all the security codes just the same as its big brother at Camelot. It's all computerised, how hard can it be?
Regarding a jackpot win, my understanding is that they hold it in a high interest account until advised where to pay it by the winner, who may be given financial advice by Camelot advisors. Winning on line would not change this procedure.
